IT Curriculum Design

IT Curriculum Design

Overview

The Curriculum Design Project involved collaboration. I actively contributed to developing the IT Specialist exam for Certiport, a Pearson Vue business. Our team diligently worked to create comprehensive training materials. We also developed teacher’s guides and the exam itself. We ensured they met the highest standards of quality and accuracy.

My Roles

Product Manager, Curriculum Designer, Subject-Matter-Expert

Project Objectives

  • Identify key knowledge areas and skills required for IT specialists, aligned with industry standards and current technology trends
  • Develop a comprehensive exam blueprint covering essential domains, such as networking, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and programming
  • Develop a variety of question types (e.g., multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, scenario-based) to assess both theoretical knowledge and practical skills
  • Pilot test questions to validate accuracy, fairness, and clarity
  • Ensure the exam design complies with accessibility standards, including accommodations for candidates with disabilities
  • Ensure the exam meets industry-recognized certification standards, such as ISO/IEC 17024 for certification bodies
  • Create resources for educators and training partners to facilitate exam preparation in classroom settings

Challenges

  • IT is a rapidly evolving field with diverse specialties. Keeping the exam content up-to-date and relevant while covering foundational skills across areas such as networking, cybersecurity, programming, and cloud computing can be complex
  • Striking a balance between creating a challenging exam that validates skills and ensuring it is accessible to candidates with varying levels of expertise and backgrounds
  • Preventing cheating, question leakage, and other forms of misconduct, especially in online testing environments

Approach and Process

The approach was rooted in structuring the lessons, so that the learners were setup for success. Blooms Taxonomy and Depth of KNowledge (DOK) were used to structure the lessons. The ADDIE model was also used.

Key Contributions

I brought my IT expertise, along with my understanding of curriculum design background.

Outcomes and Impact

The lessons were accepted by the client. The Accreditation of the lessons was confirmation that they followed the standards.
